The IMGA China-Ireland Concord was established in 2015.

IMGA was one of the co-organisers of the first joint international conference of ISEH 2016 (3rd International Symposium on Environment and Health), ISEG 2016 (10th International Symposium on Environmental Geochemistry) and Geoinformatics 2016 (24th International Conference on Geoinformatics) on Environment, Health, GIS and Agriculture, which was successfully held at National University of Ireland (NUI), Galway, Ireland during August 14 – 20, 2016. This conference provided a historical opportunity for international experts working in several closely related areas of environment, health, geographical information system (GIS) and agriculture, to meet and share the latest understanding of the ever growing challenges between human and our changing environment. As a joint conference, delegates were encouraged to attend any sessions of the conference and to extend their academic networks.

During the conference in Galway, IMGA held a business meeting in Aug. 17, 2016, where about 30 IMGA members from around the world attended.

Besides the conference in Galway, members of our chapters actively attended a number of relevant international and national conferences and workshops to present the results of our studies on medical geology, including the 18th International Conference on Heavy metals in the environment, Ghent, Belgian, September 12-15, 2016; the 251st ACS National Meeting and Exposition, San Diego, California, March 13-17, 2016; 2016 Goldschmidt Conference, Yokohama, Japan, June 26-July 1, 2016; 2016 International Symposium on Persistence Toxic Substances, Leipzig, Germany, October 11-14, 2016; 26th Irish Environmental Researchers Colloquium (Environ 2016), University of Limerick. Following the permission from President of IMGA Prof. Nelly Mañay, the IMGA China-Ireland Concord has expanded the members of the co-chairs and appointed a secretary general of the Concord.  The IMGA China-Ireland Concord will actively promote IMGA within our capacity and will report to IMGA in due course.  Let’s warmly welcome Prof. Yanxin Wang and Dr. Yamin Deng on board!  The contact details of the Concord appear above.

The China-Ireland Concord under the International Medical Geology Association (IMGA) was officially established during the event of MEDGEO 2015 in Aveiro, Portugal in July 2015, which is currently composed of 29 IMGA memberships. The memberships cover a wide range of research disciplines and institutions, 14 from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 14 from 8 universities, and one from the local public health bureau, focusing on the research fields of environmental geochemistry and human health, pollution ecology and biogeochemistry, and endemic disease and prevention.
 
The China-Ireland Concord organized a 6-member delegate to attend the MEDGEO 2015 in Aveiro, Portugal during 25th July to 2nd August. The delegates contributed to 6 oral and one poster presentations, covering the topics of biogeochemistry of mercury, thallium, arsenic and health effects, and novel DGT technology for in situ measurement of chemicals in the environment. During the conference event, Dr. Chaosheng Zhang chaired a session, and Prof. Tangfu Xiao was awarded as the Best Oral Presentation. In the IMGA AGM meeting, Prof. Tangfu Xiao was invited to give a successful talk to the promotion of MEDGEO 2019 that will be held in Guiyang, China in 2019. The MEDGEO 2019 will bring the IMGA family for the first time to the booming Asia continent.
 
The China-Ireland Concord is now supporting the forthcoming 2016 International Symposium on Environmental and Health (ISEH) in Galway, Ireland, which provides an internationally leading platform for interaction between scientists, consultants, and public servants engaged in the multi-disciplinary areas of environment and health. The concord member Dr. Chaosheng Zhang is the ISEH 2016 chairman, and Profs. Xinbin Feng and Tangfu Xiao are the Scientific and Organizing Committee Members. The China-Ireland Concord has also proposed to organize two sessions (Biogeochemical process of heavy metals and human health, and Metal Isotopes in the Environment) for the event.
