IMGA Working Group on Geo-Environment and New Contaminants
The working group will advance five key areas:
- screening and identification of geogenic contaminants under complex environmental matrices and anthropogenic multi-pollution conditions, and development of survey and assessment methodologies applicable across diverse scenarios ranging from megacities to ecologically fragile geologic settings;
- progressively establishing global baselines and health-risk databases for key elements governing soil–water environmental health, thereby building an information and data framework for global comparative studies of geo-environments, and advancing green, low-carbon, cross-media pollution prevention technologies;
- promoting geo-environmental health surveys and demonstration projects for new contaminant control in representative countries and regions, facilitating international dissemination and application of advanced technologies to support local human and ecosystem health;
- regularly organizing international symposia on geo-environmental health and new contaminants, creating a high-level academic exchange platform, while strengthening international public outreach and science communication;
- carrying out training programs on geo-environmental health investigation and pollution-control technologies, expanding and engaging membership, establishing mechanisms for cultivating young talent, and supporting the development of research teams.
This working group aims to establish an international platform for cooperation and exchange from an environmental geoscience perspective.
