Dr. KAZI TANI Latifa Sarra
Latifa Sarra Kazi Tani is an Molecular Biology researcher specialized in environmental health and medical geology. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the impact of natural mineral particles on human health, particularly in the context of neglected tropical diseases such podoconiosis.
Her work explores the toxicity of mineral particles investigating how these particles affect inflammation, and immune responses. She combines laboratory experiments with fieldwork, where she studies the disease podoconiosis, a non-infectious, geochemical disease linked to long-term exposure to specific soil types.
Sarra’s research also incorporates genetic and epigenetic approaches to better understand individual susceptibility to podoconiosis. She investigates how environmental exposure interacts with host genetics and immune regulation, aiming to uncover key biological mechanisms involved in the disease.
Her goal is to contribute to a better understanding of how environmental factors and human biology intersect, with the broader aim of supporting public health strategies and disease prevention in vulnerable populations.
