Sarbanee Mahapatra

Sarbanee Mahapatra is an environmental chemist with a strong focus on microplastic pollution and its impact on aquatic systems. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, India, where her research centers on environmental monitoring and analytical detection of microplastics in riverine and sediment ecosystems.

With a keen interest in environmental toxicology and pollution chemistry, Sarbanee applies multidisciplinary methods—including spectroscopic and microscopic techniques—to identify and quantify microplastics in natural environments. Her work aims to assess pollution sources, spatial distribution, and potential ecological risks associated with plastic contaminants.

Sarbanee has already published a review paper on microplastic analytical methodologies. Through her doctoral work, she hopes to contribute to the growing understanding of plastic pollution and support evidence-based mitigation strategies.

Before her doctoral studies, Sarbanee completed her postgraduate education in Chemistry at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, India, where she developed a strong foundation in analytical and environmental sciences.
