She belongs to the National System of Researchers at the Emeritus level. Her research interests include hydrogeochemistry, environmental geochemistry, medical geology, and geochemical monitoring of active volcanism. She has been responsible for projects identifying the origin and geochemical processes related to groundwater contamination and environmental impacts due to heavy metals and arsenic in various areas of Mexico (mainly mining regions). She has also proposed innovative alternatives for the solution of the contamination. Her scientific work includes 154 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, 38 book chapters, three edited books, and 47 refereed articles in international conferences.
