Nuno Durães

Treasurer - Executive Committee
Research: Geochemistry and mineralogy of the supergene environment; Environmental geochemistry; Biogeochemistry

Nuno Durães completed his degree in Geology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto in 2004. In 2006, he completed the Master’s Specialisation course in Prospecting and Evaluation of Geological Resources – Mineral Resources Branch in the same university. His PhD, devoted to “Geochemistry of toxic bivalent metals in the soil-sediment-water-plant system in arid and semi-arid contaminated areas”, was finished in 2011 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. Between 2012 and 2019 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Foundation for Science and Technology, carrying out his research at the GEOBIOTEC – Geobiosciences, Geoengineering and Geotechnology research unit – University of Aveiro, dedicated to the biogeochemical interaction processes of Rare Earth Elements in the soil-plant system. Between 2019 and 2022 he held a position of Researcher at the GEOBIOTEC research unit – University of Aveiro, and since 2022 he is Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences of the University of Aveiro. His research has focussed mainly on the geochemistry and mineralogy of the supergene environment, environmental geochemistry, and biogeochemistry. To date he published several publications in JCR-indexed journals, book chapters as well as communications at national and international conferences. He has an h-index of 14 and 286 citations (articles indexed in SCOPUS, excluding self-citations). He is the principal investigator of 3 scientific research projects and a member of other 13 projects.
