Dr. Raymond Kwong

Dr. Raymond Kwong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at York University. His research focuses on understanding the impacts of environmental stressors and contaminants on aquatic health and function, as well as the fundamental biological mechanisms underlying stress responses and homeostatic regulation. His laboratory investigates both legacy and emerging contaminants of concern, including metals, metal-containing nanoparticles, microplastics, and the influences of municipal wastewater.

Dr. Kwong`s research group employs advanced molecular physiology approaches to elucidate gene-environment relationships and to identify the molecular pathways underlying organismal responses and tolerance to contaminants. This strategy supports the development of next-generation predictive tools to more reliably assess the effects of environmental change on animal function, inform pollution regulation, and establish more relevant criteria for the protection of biodiversity.
