Prof. Siwen Liu

Co-chair

Dr. Siwen Liu is a Senior Research Fellow at China’s National Research Center for Geoanalysis. His work focuses on GeoHealth, an interdisciplinary field bridging geology and public health. His main research areas include: 1) establishing national-scale geochemical baselines for health-relevant elements, with an aim of enhancing international comparability and contribute to global GeoHealth initiatives; 2) assessing health risks and developing remediation strategies for potentially toxic elements in rare earth mining areas; and 3) advancing field-based techniques for the rapid analysis of elements to support the production of safe and high-quality agricultural products in selenium- and zinc-rich soil regions.

Dr. Liu serves as the Deputy Chief Expert for the National GeoHealth Survey Program, where he contributes to developing national survey protocols. A key focus of his work is aligning China’s GeoHealth practices with emerging international standards. He was awarded the national “Rare Earth Science and Technology Award,” and his technology for the ecological restoration of abandoned ion-adsorbed rare earth mines has been included in the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Catalogue of Innovative Technologies for Territorial Space Ecological Restoration.

As the Co-Chair of the IMGA Working Group on GeoHealth, he actively utilizes this role to foster international collaboration and dialogue in these key areas.
