The International Medical Geology Association aims to provide a network and a forum to bring together the combined expertise of geologists and earth scientists, environmental scientists, toxicologists, epidemiologists and medical specialists, in order to characterise the properties of geological processes and agents, the dispersal of geological material and their effects on human populations.
Research: Taotao Yan is a senior engineer at the National Research Center for Geoanalysis, specializing in applied geochemistry. His researches focus on obtaining the spatial distribution of elements in Earth materials through geochemical mapping. He proposed the original concept of "geochemical genes," which constructs geochemical characteristic fingerprints of Earth materials based on intrinsic correlations among elements, enabling tracer and source identification studies. He is currently involved in the China’s National GeoHealth Survey Project, aiming to analyze geochemical elements—both beneficial and harmful to humans—in various natural media on the Earth's surface (such as rocks, soil, water, gas, and plants), and reveal the distribution patterns of these elements. At the present, he serves as Secretary-General of the IMGA Working Group on GeoHealth, responsible for handling daily affairs and coordinating international liaison activities of the working group.
