Dr. Can Zhang

Dr. Can Zhang is the Assistant Researcher of the National Institute of Environmental Health at the China CDC. She focuses on assessing atmospheric environmental health risks under climate change. To address the challenge that the health risks of extreme weather events such as sand and dust storms (SDS) remain insufficiently understood to support public-health actions, she applies multidisciplinary environmental risk-assessment and prediction techniques. She has conducted large multicenter population studies and identified that SDS significantly increase the health risks of multiple diseases. She has also carried out clustered risk-projection research and found that China’s carbon-neutrality policies will substantially reduce PM2.5-related cardiovascular disease risks. As a first author, she has published several papers in Nature Communications, and Environment International.
